General descriptionThe city of Vukovar is the administrative center of Vukovar and Syrmia County. It is well known for its valuable cultural heritage, numerous cultural monuments, a gallery and a library.
In 1991 during the war for the Croatian independence the Yugoslav army and Serbian irregular units continuously destroyed Vukovar.
The resistance from the people in Vukovar was heroic so that Vukovar has become a symbol for heroism and patriotism in the whole world. Ten years after this the town is being rebuilt and rising as a phoenix from the ashes on the Danube
