General descriptionMedieval idyll: Togehter with the wine areas of Oberloiben and Unterloiben. Dürnstein is considered to be one of the most romantic spots along the Danube. Popular excursions are the abbey with its magnificent Baroque church and the ruins, once the main Kuenring castle. It was here that the English king Richard I. Lionheart was held for a while in 1192/93. The panorama! The views sweep far across the Danube valley. Beautiful hiking trails on Urgestein cliffs, slow train journeys through the vineyards with a wine tasting at the end. First-class award-winning restaurants, traditional guesthouses and cosy "Buschenschenken" provide the guests with delicacies from the kitchen and cellar. Concerts, from classic through to folklore. Sports and leisure park at the Kuenring open air pool.
