General description | Together with the winegrowing areas of Joching, Wösendorf and St. Michael, the market community of Weißenkirchen in the Wachau forms the largest winegrowing district in the Wachau. The two thousand year old histsory has left positive traces behind: an imposing one is the fortress church dating back to 1190. It towers above the picturesque lanes with historic houses and magnificent grape gathering centres. The cultural centre displays the 15th century Teisenhofer courtyard, in which the Wachau museum and the 1st Lower Ausrian wine academy are housed. Numerous "Buschenschank" taverns invite you to stay a while. Also worth a visit are the wine paths from Weißenkirchen to St. Michael, the Achleiten panoramic path, the grape garden and, in summer, the natural lido and the beach volley ball area. Tennis, cable ferry. |
