General descriptionIn Petronell, you can admire the most extensive Roman archaeological excavations to be found in Central Europe. After all, the then town of "Carnuntum" was approx. 50.00 inhabitants was the captal of Upper Pannonia. Founded shortly after the birth of Christ, many times destroyed and rebuilt up until 400 AD., it was a garrison for the XIV. and XV. legions. In addition to the excavations, the area has cosy "Buschenschank", guesthouses and an excellent hotel with restaurant. Deligtful walks through the Danube-Auen. Ideal for families with children.
