General description | The city Vilshofen upon Danube lies at the western entrance of the lower bavarian - upper austrian breakthrough of the Danube where Vils, Wolfach and Pfudrach flows into the Danube. The old city looks like a swimming island, because of it`s closeness to the Danube. Above the city enthroned the convent of the benedicts abbey Schweiklberg. The convent shop with it'`s cafe,the africamuseum and the renovated minster are worthwile destiantions. The town`s landmark ist the tower built in 1643-1647 from Bartholomä Viscardi. Nowadays the tower accomodates several exhibitions. The centrality of Vils upon Danube to a large number of sights in the adjacency,helps to make the stay in Vils more attractive.The closenenss to Austria and the Czech Republic, to the bavarian forest and the hot springs Bad Füssing, Bad Griesbach and Bad Birnbach, to the greatest golf center of europe or to the city Passau are more reasons to visit Vils upon Danube. |
