General descriptionImportant resort and wine vilage in the heart of the Wachau, on the left of the Danube and located in the Austrian Romantic Road. First mentioned in the year of 865. Sights: Renaissance and Baroque houses, late Gotic triple-aisle church (15th century), ruin "Hinterhaus", Erlahof Castle, Danube Shipping Museum, Red Gate. Vineyards right in town "Tausendeimerberg" ("Thousand Barrel Hill"). Rustic and cosy wine taverns and excellent, traditional kitchen.
