DescriptionThe National Museum is the most important and oldest.It was founded in
1844,and its building was constructed at the beginning of this century,in the very heart of the city,on Republic Square.One should mention that the most prominent collctions contain specimens of prehistoric ceramics,Greek and Roman jewelry,copies of medieval frescoes,Serbian icons and many other artefacts,as well as a valuable collection of paintings from recent times,paintings and sculptures by Serbian and French artsts,especially the Impressionists.
