Die Karlstraße mit Jugendstilelementen (The Karl Street - An ensemble of Art Nouveau Buildings)

DescriptionMany of the buildings along Karl Street are adorned with art nouveau elements. After the big fire of 1908, the buildings were reconstructed with a city-architectural masterplan in mind. Much attention was given to stylistic details. The wrought are narrow and high, and many bays are adorned with gold ornamentations. The steph-gabled walls, for instance at the Thedy buidling (Karlstr. 11) were supposed to serve as fire barriers.

Fürstlich Fürstenbergische Sammlungen (Royal Fürstenberg Collections)

DescriptionOne section of the museum houses temporary exhibitions of world-renowned contemporary art. The museum is also home to a natural history collection assembled in the 19th century. This
collection has remained largely untouched since its beginnings.
As such, the natural history collection documents the museum traditions in Germany. The existence of two such completely divergent collections within a single museum and the contrasts
between the two ist particularly exciting.
